What does half a trillion dollars of cryptocurrency mean? We've been saying for months now, that 2018 will be the year institutional money starts flooding the Crypto market. It's the next phase of the "bubble" forming patter. Like in the internet boom of the late 90's, we first saw early adopters, institutional money, and finally mass populous adoption and then the bubble burst. We're still very early, straddling the early adopter/institutional money phase. Also Preethi Kasireddy says goodbye to Silicon Valley and says hello to L.A. She has a passion for understanding things at a fundamental level and sharing it as clearly as possible. Oh, and Daniel Baker, fan of the show joins us on the roundtable. Lotta fun!

Welcome to a special CROSS EPISODE where this week Monero Monitor does a guest episode on our network. In July 2016, an unknown developer going by the name "Tom Elvis Jedusor" dropped a link to a Tor hidden service on the bitcoin-wizards IRC channel. In it, he revealed a new protocol dubbed "Mimblewimble" after the tongue-tying curse in Harry Potter, because "it is used to prevent the blockchain from talking about all user's information".

In the time since, multiple researchers and developers have continued to flesh out and build on Jedusor's innovation, in many respects led by Andrew Poelstra, a Bitcoin developer and mathematician at Blockstream.

This deep dive with Andrew covers the technical details of Mimblewimble's scaling and privacy-enhancing features, discusses the real world logistics of using the protocol, and looks at some of the coolest features enabled by the technology. We discuss how Bulletproofs can help both Mimblewimble and Monero better scale, and also touch on how ValueShuffle might further improve privacy in Mimblewimble.

How can projects like Gitcoin and Bounties Network help shape the evolving nature of work? The internet and sharing economy has changed many things about how we think about work. Now imagine what the next generation of work platforms built on Ethereum could do.

We talk about why Mark and Kevin chose to work on similar projects, how they collaborate, and the breadth vs depth differences between incentivizing open source software projects (Gitcoin) vs open-ended work platform (Bounties Network).

The previous institutional stealth projects are coming out of light now-a-days. Bank of America may be looking into cryptocurrency exchange services for its corporate clients – or at least keeping its options open should they become interested. In addition, Giveth – a favorite of the podcast team here – are bringing community, transparency and accountability to charitable donations and strongly innovating in a much needed space. Griff Green stops by to chat about a variety of things and what is on the horizon.

Today the team goes over what problems a lot of traders run into when trading and how they can start to avoid them. There is no “holy grail” when trading, only a process of proper risk management. Your only job as a trader is to manage your risk properly, not to tell a story. Fundamentals and valuation are two fields focused on often but what is usually overlooked is the cyclical and mental aspects of trading.

If you’re interested in the intersection of the music business and Ethereum, you’ll love this episode.

We talk about the evolution from Ujo from when they did the release with Imogean Heap through the recent RAC release, what lessons they’ve learned and how Ujo can improve the music business for artists and consumers.

In particular we discuss the Ujo roadmap to grow the licensing market for musicians, as well as incentivizing album buying through gamification and also possibly incentivizing curation of the long-tail of music.

Amy Wan is one of the most versatile lawyers we have come across. Not because she is smart and resourceful, but because she has experience as a Securities Attorney dealing with security law for ICOs. She is authoring the Bloomberg Law practice guidance on ICOs. Previously, she was a Partner at Crowdfunding Lawyers and General Counsel at Patch of Land, a real estate debt crowdfunding platform. Amy is also the founder and co-organizer of Legal Hackers LA, which programs around the intersection of law and technology. Also the boys talk in depth about whether or not we are on the correct path to mass adoption. This is not mass adoption, this is mass trading...those are two different things. Right?

RocketPool is a mining pool for proof-of-stake Casper. While none of the parameters of Casper are final, a minimum of 1000 ETH has been discussed as a requirement for staking. RocketPool makes staking accessible to non-whales. David and I discuss how he’s architected RocketPool for security of funds and also the devops behind making sure that your node is constantly online. RocketPool will use nodes around the world — but what happens if the data center catches fire where your Ether is staked?

We've heard a lot of feedback from listeners inquiring why we don't talk about Bitcoin Cash much. Well, today we discuss the Bitcoin Cash Fund. What is that? Well it is a grass-roots project to accelerate the adoption of Bitcoin Cash. Also our guest this week is Dr. D.L. Thornton, a Ph.D. economist who conducts economic research on a range of topics, especially economic policy. It makes for a good podcast episode because he is an excellent speaker with a knack for presenting complex and arcane economic ideas in simple, understandable terms.

I expect Bitcoin will overthrow the total circulating USD very very soon. What do you think? How about Ethereum? ROCKET SHIP! You see the price?! That's a 5,500% price rise compared to current price. The price of Ethereum may be rising on the news that Ethereum might get its own derivatives market, as well as prediction by Bitcoin investor Mike Novogratz that the price of ether will reach $500 this year. Arianna Simpson first came on our radar when she wrote about a companies practice of valuing companies on a monthly basis which imposed public company-level scrutiny on the very private companies it chose to invest in. We thought it was tremendously short-sighted as well, and created volatility where there need not be. How does that relate to crypto? Hit play!

The bitcoin and open blockchain community is drowning in corporate propaganda. Objective, independent and strong voices that are not beholden to promoting special interests can make a huge difference in the narrative. And well, if you are intending on listening to this weeks episode, there is a good chance you’ve probably seen some of his work already and you realize how much time, money, and effort goes into producing original content with an independent perspective. Andreas Antonopoulos comes on our show to complete the trilogy of appearances to give us some peace of mind in an otherwise crazy last couple of weeks.

The network acts as a critical piece of transparency by enabling automated checks on smart contract vulnerabilities and automatically rewarding verifiers who identify bugs. Quantstamp tokens allow the platform to operate in a scalable and fully decentralized fashion, delivering computation fees to verifier nodes, and bounties for locating vulnerabilities.

Devcon3 is a wrap! We successfully avoided Corrupted cops, locals & crypto gangs. Instead we had dinner and rubbed shoulders with the best of them. We drunk plenty of alcohol (after all, we ARE in Cancun), and learned a lot. Again, here are our takeaways, but this time from the last two days of Devcon3 as we provide you our recap part 2. Which talks you should watch/attend and/or miss? Who lived up to expectations and who disappointed?...and most importantly, which announcements were game changing. For everyone that met up with us from our slack, and who recognized us from Twitter -- we thank you! We will see you next year!

We’re in the early days of a technological breakthrough that has the potential for enormous societal impact, but challenges remain. As we spent the past week in Cancun, Mexico, we cut the roundtable short, but we bring Stephen McKeon into the studio to have a healthy discussion. Stephen is an expert in topics related to corporate finance, including venture capital, private equity, entrepreneurial finance, mergers and acquisitions. At the University of Oregon, he is an assistant professor of finance. He also works in the Finance and Securities Analysis Center in the Lundquist College of Business.

The first day of Devcon3 has come to an end and there’s a lot to be processed. Before we head into the second day of Ethereum’s conference in Cancún, Mexico, here are our takeaways from yesterday and today. We recap which talks you should watch/attend and/or miss. Who lived up to expectations and who disappointed...and most importantly, which announcements were game changing. Finally, there were also some hints for other improvements to the Ethereum platform that might be coming in the future. These include planned upgrades to the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM), eWASM, which enables Ethereum to run in a web browser, and so-called “stateless clients”, a proposal for how clients could sync with the network more quickly. We anticipate hearing much more about these in the coming days at Devcon3. Listen now, and wait until the end of the conference for part 2. Like DMX, we gon' give it to ya.

DC is an Ethereum-based exchange for government currency backed crypto assets. DC assets are backed by fiat currency reserves and pegged at the value of the fiat currency they represent. CEO, Alex Wearn, is an expert at managing teams in the design and delivery of cutting edge software products. He joins us for a great, engaging conversation. One of the key ideas here is to protect against exchange risk whenever the asset has to reside on the blockchain for a period of time. And so on.

Christians make up 1/3 the global population. The number one bible website gets over 1.5 BILLION PAGES VIEWS per year. I'll let you do the math on the CPM at $4. That's just for Bible reading. We get that this may not be for everyone but to be so short sided. Christ Coin is the first pre-mined Christian-based Cryptocurrency. It is used to financially reward people who read the Bible, post/view content and interact with the community on the Life Change Platform. Luke Forstmann, co-founder, comes from an extraordinary lineage of family committed to working in the philanthropic and financial fields. He was kind enough to come on this week to talk shop!
